Chittagong University is the first university in the Southern Region of Bangladesh thus making it the primary hub for cultural and intellectual practices in the south for 56 Years and counting. Being Established in 1966 Chittagong University has played a role in the Liberation war of Bangladesh as well in 1971. A council of the University was constituted to intensify the struggle for liberation in a meeting held on 8 March 1971 with then Vice Chancellor Dr AR Mallick in the chair. One teacher, eleven students and three staff members of the university embraced martyrdom in the war of liberation. One of the other factors gives Chittagong University a distinct Identity is the wildlife and ecological environment of Chittagong University where we can find a diversified wildlife, flora etc. And let us not forget the Mountains and Natural beauty of campus. All in All Chittagong University is a Hot Spot of Nature, Culture and Intellectual Practices. In present times we are recovering from Covid 19 Pandemic and Bangladesh as a nation has been ever so resilient in this effort. The current context is one where the need for development practitioners and planners will be most needed. The Aim of The Department of Development Studies of Chittagong University is to create students capable of critical thinking with problem-solving skills. We are also cultivating them in a way that they can become exemplary citizens with integrity, empathy and leadership skill to service to society in future. The Department despite being comparatively New and Having only 4 batches has made it's course plan up to global standards and not only that a course plan for a Masters Program is also under work from us to ensure the maximum opportunities. We also have plans to introduce MPhil and PhD programs over time. The Department further plans to increase its contribution in both national and international arena and communities of dynamic settings through stimulating research, interactive dialogues, knowledge-driven conferences to advance exceptional ranges of theoretical interests and empirical evidence. Let us strive towards our goals and objectives with full zeal even in the hopes of becoming successful and a symbol of excellence.
